Description
Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Little Falls, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Department: Emergency Room (ER)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:3, varies by patient acuity
- Patient Population: Newborn to Geriatric
- Common Diagnoses: Respiratory, cardiac, trauma, stroke
- Trauma Level: Level IV trauma center
- Stroke Center: Stroke ready designation
- Beds: 10 beds, including 2 trauma bays
- Separate Triage Area: Yes, competent triage skills required
- Psych/Seclusion Rooms: Yes, 1 locked seclusion room
- Security: No in-house security; de-escalation skills required, local police used for emergencies
- Average Patients per Day: 25-30
- Common Drips: Norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, propofol
- Providers Onsite: 1 provider (MD, DO, or PA) 24/7
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse on each shift
- Support Staff: CNA/Tech available 2pm-10:30pm for transport prep, vitals, room turnover, stocking, EKGs, swabs, splinting (if trained)
- Respiratory Therapist (RT): Available daytime, on-call at night; RT performs EKG, ABG, respiratory treatments including vent/BiPAP/CPAP/High Flow
- RN Responsibilities with RT Equipment: Initiate treatments with verbal assistance from RT on call if needed
- Tele/Monitor Techs: None; RNs read their own cardiac strips (Phillips monitors)
- Imaging: No X-Ray or CT in ER; RN assists with transport for imaging, especially stroke activations
- Phlebotomy: Labs drawn by both phlebotomy and RNs
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Critical Access Emergency Department experience preferred
- Strong practical skills, ability to work independently and as a team player
- Competent triage skills required
- Prior travel experience: Not specified (assumed not required)
Work Schedule & Orientation
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am)
- Schedule: Rotating days and nights in 6-week blocks; no back-to-back day/night shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Call or Standby: None
- Floating: None
- Orientation: Unit-specific orientation until competency achieved, up to 4 shifts
Additional Notes
- No clinical involvement outside of ER nursing duties
- No fast track area
- No separate holding area; ER holds intermixed within ER
- Dress Code: Professional appearance required, no specific scrub color
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities in the past year
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses comfortable in a critical access setting with a broad patient population and strong independent skills.
