Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS Float Pool RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Minimum 3-4 weekend shifts scheduled
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- Float Assignment: Med Surg floors at Main hospital and Ashley River tower
- Patient Ratios: May vary depending on unit assigned
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Schedule Flexibility: Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Locals Accepted: Yes, on a case-by-case basis
Experience & Licensure Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years in specialty
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- First-Time Travelers: Accepted

- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency: Required as applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with follow-up CXR
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- COVID Vaccines: Not required but highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
- Other: Annual TB questionnaire required
Background & Verification
- Annual background check covering last 7 years of residence/employment
- Employment verification of last 3 clinical employers (or all if fewer than 3)
- Education verification required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- State-specific searches including South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers list
Documentation & Onboarding
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
- Completion of orientation modules (approx. 2 hours) prior to orientation
- Upload vaccination records (COVID, Flu) into facility system
- Facility-specific first day instructions and modules provided after clearance
- Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
Additional Notes
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
- Radiation badge required only for specific units (not applicable for this RN float pool role)
- Local candidates may be considered with adjusted pay rate
- Facility allows 1 shift call-off per 2 weeks
This position is suitable for RNs with at least 2 years of experience, willing to work night shifts and weekends, and able to float between medical-surgical units. First-time travel nurses are welcome to apply.
