Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down)
Location: South Bend, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Specialty Details
- Unit: MS - 7th Floor Intermediate (Step Down/Cardiac Floor)
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
- Call Requirements: None
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: To like or lesser units
- Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Specialty: Cardiac telemetry and stroke care
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years preferred (1 year required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
Required Skills & Experience
- Proficient in reading, identifying, and reacting to cardiac rhythms (must pass telemetry rhythm identification quiz)
- Telemetry and cardiac/stroke experience required
- Some cardiac drip experience required (e.g., Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Lasix)
- Experience with patients requiring all modes of oxygenation except ventilators
- Exposure to renal patients undergoing hemodialysis (performed by outside company)
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Active state nursing license (pending license accepted if active prior to start)
Additional Requirements
- Must live outside a 50-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- Background check covering last 7 years and all states lived/worked
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcripts required
- Physical exam required
- Negative 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- TB screening (Negative 2-step PPD or Qgold within 1 year; T-Spots not accepted)
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required prior to start (flu season October–May)
- COVID vaccine exemption process available for medical or religious reasons

- Scrub color: Royal Blue or White
Notes
- On-site EKG exam required to assess cardiac rhythm knowledge
- Modules (70-80) must be completed prior to start; candidates are paid for module completion time
- Photo for badge required (passport-style, solid background)
This position is ideal for experienced RNs with strong cardiac telemetry skills looking for a travel contract in a cardiac-focused step-down unit.
