Description
Job Opportunity: Occupational Therapist (OT) - Acute Care Hospital
Location: Lafayette, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work schedule: Monday - Friday plus one weekend day per month throughout the contract
- Join an inpatient acute care rehab team of 19 professionals
- Patient acuity levels range from ICU to progressive care units
- Common diagnoses include CABG & other cardiac procedures, stroke, TBI, joint replacement, fracture repairs, respiratory illnesses, dementia, MS, Parkinson’s, ambulation issues, etc.
- Responsibilities include evaluating patients, developing and following plans of care (POC) that may include ADL training, therapeutic exercises, therapeutic activities to improve function, and assessing discharge disposition daily
- Charting system: Cerner
- Scrub color: Royal Blue with black shoes
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of Occupational Therapy experience in an acute hospital setting
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Indiana state license
- NBCOT certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- Preferred certifications/licenses: Manual Therapy, Lymphedema
- Cerner experience preferred
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
Important Notes
- Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs will not be allowed to start new contracts at this facility except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (this OT role is Allied)
- Must comply with facility-specific policies and complete required documentation prior to start
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, criminal checks, sex offender registry, and education verification
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NRP, CHEMO, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology test and unit competency exam
- Health documents:
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (N95 or approved respirators)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations/vaccinations: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (strongly recommended)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment verified within 2 years, with appropriate supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually
Summary
This is a travel contract position for an Occupational Therapist with at least 1 year of acute hospital experience, licensed in Indiana, and NBCOT certified. The role involves working with a diverse inpatient acute care population, requiring strong clinical skills and the ability to manage complex cases. Compliance with extensive documentation, certifications, and health requirements is mandatory. Prior travel experience is not required.
