Description
Travel RN - Emergency Department
Location: Corpus Christi, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED), 1st floor
- Number of Beds: 16 beds with 8 hall chairs
- Staff per Shift: 6-7
- Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), 1 ultrasound tech, 1-2 techs
- Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 1 triage nurse, 4-5 nurses (one mid-shift), ultrasound tech (7pm-midnight), 1 tech
- Patient Ratios: 1:4, low acuity ESI 4 & 5, may take up to 6 patients
- Equipment: Cardiac monitors, Baxter IV pumps, HP monitors, Tonopen, and more
- EMR System: Meditech (vital signs flow directly into chart)
Required Qualifications
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
- Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- NIH Certification
- Experience: Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department experience (higher requirement noted: greater than 2 years preferred)
- Trauma Experience: Level II or Level III trauma experience required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Preferred Qualifications
- CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) or TCRN (Trauma Certified Registered Nurse)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification
- More than 2 years of emergency department experience
Typical Procedures Performed
- Patient assessments and documentation
- Medication administration
- Wound care and splinting
- IV insertion and management
- Urine collection and lab draws
- Care for patients ranging from ESI level 5 (low acuity) through level 1 (high acuity)
Work Environment & Culture
- Compassion, urgency, and teamwork are highly valued
- Transitioning from a Level IV to a Level II trauma hospital
- Mandatory shift huddles at 7am and 7pm (except when providing critical care)
- EMTALA training is mandatory
- Dress code: Royal blue scrubs preferred; seasonal team jerseys encouraged on Sundays
