Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Observation Unit
Location: Urbana, Illinois

Job Description
The RN is responsible for providing professional nursing care to a group of patients during a designated time frame. Care is delivered using the nursing process, current nursing trends, technology, and resources within the institution's philosophy.
Essential Functions
- Perform all unit-specific nursing responsibilities within the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the observation unit.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of nursing care for healthcare team use.
- Complete initial patient assessments upon admission and develop appropriate care plans based on patient and family needs.
- Implement and modify care plans based on continuous patient evaluation.
- Ensure patient and employee safety by reporting or correcting hazards and incidents.
- Communicate effectively and privately to resolve issues.
- Provide constructive feedback to peers and collaborate to expand knowledge.
- Identify personal learning needs and take initiative for professional development.
- Fulfill all departmental competency requirements.
Department-Specific Functions
- Assess IV sites every 4 hours.
- Start new IVs according to policy.
- Maintain documentation standards as evidenced by passing quarterly chart audits.
- Attend at least 5 out of 6 staff meetings annually.
- Identify changes in patient status and respond appropriately.
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of relevant nursing experience.
Education
- Required: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Certifications & Licensure
- Illinois State RN License in good standing
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from the American Heart Association
Skills
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, comprehension, speaking)
- Basic computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, email, web browsing)
- Multicultural sensitivity
- Critical thinking and independent judgment in decision-making
