Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Specialty: MedSurg/Oncology (Unit 6S - Post-Op/Oncology/Telemetry)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

• Unit Type: 6S Post-Op/Oncology/Telemetry
• Beds: 36 (all private rooms)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1:5-6
• Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 AM - 7 PM; 7 PM - 7 AM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for both day and night shifts)
• Holiday Requirement: Work holidays as part of the permanent staff rotation
• Charge Nurse: Available 24/7; day shift charge nurse does not take patients, night shift charge nurse does
• Nurse Aides: 3 CNAs on day shift and 3 on night shift
• Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs; no false nails allowed

Patient Population & Care

• General MedSurg patients and some post-op patients (lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy)
• Oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections
• Patients with chest tubes, including malignant patients discharged with PleurX chest tubes (experience with PleurX is a significant plus)
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Skills & Certifications

• Certifications: BLS (AHA) required
• ONS/ONCC (Chemotherapy/Biotherapy) certification is a plus
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips (Phillips monitors used; central monitor tech available)
• Experience with chemotherapy administration preferred (permanent nurses administer chemo)
• Experience with titrating Heparin drip only (no cardiac drips)
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP (managed by RTs; nurses not expected to manage vents or trachs)

Experience Requirements

• Specialty Experience: Minimum 5 years in MedSurg/Oncology (based on specialty title)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

• Floating may be required to other MedSurg or Telemetry units
• Scheduling is managed by the facility; no mention of self-scheduling or block scheduling
