Registered Nurse (RN) - Medical/Surgical

Location: Juneau, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract Clinician
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Provide nursing care for primarily adult patients before and after surgical procedures.
• Manage patients treated with pharmaceuticals to manage illness.
• Work in a fast-paced, constantly changing Med/Surg unit environment.
• Develop broad knowledge base applicable to other specialties.
• Utilize excellent nursing, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Equipment used includes computerized charting and Meditech.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 3 years of acute care experience, with at least 2 years in Medical/Surgical or primary unit specialty (RN III level).
• Education: Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program.
• Licensure: Current State of Alaska Registered Nurse license.
• Certifications:

  • Current BLS for Healthcare Provider CPR or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
  • PALS/PEARS certification required (some pediatric patients present, though no newborn care).

Schedule & Work Environment

• Typical shifts: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00am - 7:30pm or 7:00pm - 7:30am), plus on-call night shifts.
• Nurse to patient ratio: 1 RN to 6 patients.
• Unit size: 35 beds.
• No floating to other units or departments.
• Dress code: Own scrubs required; all colors approved except royal blue, forest green, and bright red.

• Critical thinking skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision are essential.
• Prior travel experience is not specified or required.
