Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Tennessee, Johnson City

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Cardiovascular PCU/Stepdown)
  • Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
  • Call: No call required
  • Floating: Floating required (with specific ratio guidelines when floated to Medical-Surgical units)
  • Traveler Residence Requirement: Must live at least 100 miles from the hospital’s service area

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required; accepts first-time travelers

Certifications Required

  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (verify if required/preferred)
  • Other certifications as applicable (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC) depending on unit specifics

Orientation & Training

  • General orientation begins on Sundays (online CBLs)
  • 16 hours of non-billable orientation required
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care in Cardiovascular PCU/Stepdown unit
  • Participate actively in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care duties

Background Checks & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed/certified in TN or working in TN

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Fit mask testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge within 48 hours of contract signing (ID photo standards apply)
  • Completion of various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments (e.g., dress code, smoking policy, contaminated sharps exposure statement)
  • Respirator medical evaluation questionnaire and clearance forms must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual

Additional Notes

  • Hospital may adjust shifts based on census without financial penalty
  • Active participation in clinical education for nursing students is expected in addition to patient care
