Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Devils Lake, North Dakota

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Med/Surg/Peds unit (no ICU, but may take Tele or ICU acuity patients within scope of practice)
• 25 beds (typical census 12-14 patients)
• Patient age range: Pediatrics to Geriatrics
• Common diagnoses: respiratory, infectious diseases, GI issues, alcohol intoxication/withdrawal, liver disease, acute kidney injury, diabetes/DKA, rehab/swing bed, occasional social admits

Nurse Staffing & Ratios

• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
• Night shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Critical patients receive 1:1 or 1:2 care
• No charge nurse on shift; house supervisor/coordinator available
• Patient care techs available at ratio 1:12

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of MedSurg, Telemetry, and Pediatrics nursing experience required
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory if candidate is strong otherwise
• Must be able to titrate drips (e.g., insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, Heparin, aminophylline, magnesium, potassium, albumin, blood products)
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry/monitoring data (no monitor techs on unit)
• Wide skill set needed due to variety of patient ages and diagnoses
• Nursing coordinator available for assistance

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Scheduling & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7am-7pm, 7pm-7am, rotating days and nights
• Weekend requirement: 2 out of every 6 weekends minimum; may be asked to fill additional weekends as needed
• Holiday requirement: Yes, with possibility of requesting time off if given in advance
• No call or standby required; overtime opportunities available if needed
• Floating: May be asked to assist other departments but only within scope of practice and experience

Orientation & Other Details

• Unit-specific orientation: minimum 2 shifts
• Scrub color: any
• Equipment used includes Bipap, ventilators, Glidescope, heated high flow, bubble CPAP, and standard oxygen delivery devices

Summary of Required Qualifications

• RN license in good standing for North Dakota
• Minimum 1 year experience in MedSurg, Telemetry, and Pediatrics nursing
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications current
• Ability to titrate drips and interpret telemetry
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required
