Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Peoria, Illinois
Specialty: SFMC - Adult Medical Specialty (AMSU)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Overview

• Adult Medical Specialty Unit (56 beds; private and semi-private)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Day (07:00–23:00): 1:4-5
  • Night (23:00–07:30): 1:5-6
• Charge nurse present on each floor (does not take patient assignments)
• Patient Care Techs (PCTs) assist with vital signs, accu-checks, bladder scans, and ADLs; ratio 1:8-10
• House-wide telemetry monitored remotely; RNs view strips on pack or computer (Phillips monitors)

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

• Acute Care General Medicine including:

  • Cellulitis
  • Sepsis
  • Dehydration
  • Electrolyte imbalance
  • Syncope
  • Anemia
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Acute respiratory failure
  • Liver failure
  • Kidney failure
  • Behavioral health & addictions

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Experience with:

  • Central lines
  • Tracheostomies
  • Chest tubes
• Preferred:

  • EPIC electronic health record experience
  • Prior travel experience on a MedSurg floor preferred
  • Candidates with Level I trauma center experience may be considered without prior travel experience if EPIC experience is present
• No requirement for RNs to titrate drips
• Common drips used: Heparin, Lasix

Work Schedule & Requirements

• Shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Scheduling: API electronic scheduling system with self-scheduling/block scheduling allowed
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for days; Fri/Sat for nights)
• Holiday requirement: Varies
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating: Rotation to other acute care general medicine areas (nephrology, neuro, ortho, oncology)

Orientation & Other Notes

• Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
• Scrub/dress code: Any color professional scrubs; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears
• Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
• Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius

Prior Travel Experience

• Preferred but not strictly required if candidate has Level I trauma center experience and EPIC experience

This position is ideal for RNs with MedSurg experience seeking a 13-week contract in an adult medical specialty unit.
