Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 16 weeks (approximately 4 months)

Job Description

  • Work in a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit (14 & 15W James) specializing in Oncology and mixed acuity PCU and MS units.
  • Patient diagnoses include:
    • Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
    • Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
    • Amyloidosis
    • Aplastic Anemia
    • Chronic Leukemia (CLL, Myeloid)
    • Hodgkin's Lymphoma
    • Multiple Myeloma
    • Myelodysplastic Syndrome
    • Myeloproliferative Disorders
    • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Special procedures include:
    • Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
    • CAR-T Therapy

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical (MS) and Oncology experience (higher experience requirement confirmed).
  • Hematology-Oncology experience is strongly preferred.
  • Chemotherapy certification is not required.

Certifications Required

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable)

Preferred Certifications

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)

Skills Required

  • Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing skills
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Nasal cannula oxygen administration

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting.
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN).
  • State license verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RNs.
  • Completion of a medication/pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required annually).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and freedom from contagious disease.
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).
  • Immunization and health document requirements including:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (mask required if declined during flu season)
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually.
  • Annual review and acknowledgment of ethics, compliance, dress code, and hand hygiene policies.

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • Candidates using a compact license from states other than Ohio must complete a Residency Declaration Form.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if there is a break in service over 90 days.
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required prior to start.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology transplant unit with a diverse patient population and advanced treatment modalities. Candidates should be prepared for a rigorous credentialing and compliance process.
