Description
Job Opportunity: Scrub Technician
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Provide safe patient care following professional and hospital standards. Assist in coordinating patient care, support surgical procedures (not as a surgical assistant), maintain asepsis, perform scrubbing duties, and communicate patient information. Maintain equipment and cleanliness in the surgical environment. Serve as a clinical preceptor for scrubbing staff during orientation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist registered nurses in planning and coordinating patient care.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members and participate in performance improvement activities.
- Maintain aseptic technique and perform scrubbing duties during surgeries.
- Account for all equipment and supplies used in patient care.
- Communicate effectively with peers, patients, visitors, and other healthcare team members.
- Maintain cleanliness and proper care of surgical equipment.
- May be required to take call and/or work weekends and holidays based on department needs.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, stooping.
- Frequent lifting/moving patients and equipment (up to 50 lbs).
- Frequent pushing or pulling (up to 50 lbs).
- Frequent use of hand/finger dexterity and reaching/twisting motions.
- Exposure to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and blood-borne pathogens.
- Moderate to high noise levels.
- Work under stressful conditions, deadlines, and irregular hours.
Required Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist educational program OR approved Surgical Technology training through U.S. Military programs.
- NBSTSA-Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Scrub Technician
