Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg PCU) - Travel/Contract

Location: Monticello, Indiana
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Position Details

  • Prior Travel Experience Required: No indication of prior travel experience required
  • Float Required: Yes (MS/PCU Float ratios of 1:5)
  • Locals Accepted: No
  • Pending License Accepted: No (Must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand)
  • RTO Restrictions: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • Shift Details:
    • 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
    • 3 shifts of 12 hours totaling 36 hours/week
    • 4 shifts of 12 hours totaling 48 hours/week

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
  • Other certifications may be required depending on the unit (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)

Special Requirements / Skills

  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Peripheral Line Care/Management
  • Oxygen delivery methods: Nasal Cannula, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank
  • Non-invasive airway management

Licensing & Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Indiana RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Transcript/Diploma and Education Verification required
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
  • Unit Competency Exam required
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) required
  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit Mask Test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
    • Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
  • Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 flu season (no declinations accepted)

Additional Notes

  • Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
  • Multiple facility-specific documents and orientation packets must be completed prior to start
  • Minimum of 2 references from recent employment required, verified within 2 years
  • Employment application must be current and explain any gaps of 30 days or more

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1.5 years of Med Surg PCU experience, who is comfortable with float assignments and working in a fast-paced acute care environment.
