Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Med Surg PCU) - Travel/Contract
Location: Monticello, Indiana
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Med Surg PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

- Float Required: Yes (MS/PCU Float ratios of 1:5)

- Pending License Accepted: No (Must have Indiana state license and required certifications in hand)
- RTO Restrictions: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Shift Details:
- 8 and 10 hour shifts totaling 40 hours/week
- 3 shifts of 12 hours totaling 36 hours/week
- 4 shifts of 12 hours totaling 48 hours/week
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- Other certifications may be required depending on the unit (e.g., CHEMO, TNCC, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
Special Requirements / Skills
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Peripheral Line Care/Management
- Oxygen delivery methods: Nasal Cannula, Oxygen face masks, Portable Oxygen tank
- Non-invasive airway management
- Isolation Precautions

Licensing & Documentation Requirements
- Valid Indiana RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level III, education verification, and international search if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Transcript/Diploma and Education Verification required
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required
- Unit Competency Exam required
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara exam or equivalent) required
- Physical Exam within 12 months of start
- Fit Mask Test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (no declinations accepted)
- Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 12 months
- Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for 2025-26 flu season (no declinations accepted)
Additional Notes
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- IU Health will not allow Indiana RNs to work at their facilities after 11/30/24 except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers
- Multiple facility-specific documents and orientation packets must be completed prior to start
- Minimum of 2 references from recent employment required, verified within 2 years
- Employment application must be current and explain any gaps of 30 days or more
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1.5 years of Med Surg PCU experience, who is comfortable with float assignments and working in a fast-paced acute care environment.
