Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Towson, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 19:00 - 07:30 (36 hours/week) with possibility of rotation
Start Date: February 23, 2026


Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVICU)
  • Required Experience: 2 years in CVICU (accepting first-time travelers with CVICU experience)
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Maryland RN license
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
  • TCNN preferred (Trauma Core Nursing Network)
  • OCN preferred (Oncology Certified Nurse)

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • Night shift with possibility of rotation
  • Every third weekend required
  • Holidays required as scheduled
  • Floating to MSICU as needed
  • On-call: 24-32 hours per rotating 8-week schedule

Unit & Patient Details

  • Unit: CVICU
  • Beds: 6
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
  • Average daily census: 3-5 patients
  • Common diagnoses:
    • Post-op cardiac surgery (CABG, MVR, AVR)
    • Cardiac surgery re-admissions/ICU bounce-backs
    • Structural heart procedures (TAVR, mitral clips)
    • STEMI/NSTEMI, cardiogenic shock
    • Inari procedure patients
  • Special procedures:
    • Management of patients in first 6 hours post-op with multiple inotropes
    • Hemodynamic instability, extreme coagulopathy
    • Open chest, OHS/Impella, ECMO (perfusionist on-site)
    • CRRT (dialysis on-site), IABP
    • Active cardiac output management

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, education verification
  • Drug testing: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests NOT accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (2025-26 season)
    • Tdap (for units working with children or ED)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol
    • Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B titers or vaccines as required
  • Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year prior to start
  • References: Two supervisory references within 1 year (one must be supervisor/manager)
  • Employment history verification: 7 years required
  • Facility-specific documents: Confidentiality agreement, badge photo, respiratory protection questionnaire, job description acknowledgment, dress code review, and others as required

Additional Notes

  • Floating to Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU) may be required
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call responsibilities
  • Local travelers accepted at a reduced local rate (not relevant for pay details here)

This position is ideal for CVICU RNs with at least 2 years of experience looking for a 13-week travel contract with night shifts and a dynamic cardiac ICU patient population.
