ICU RN Opportunity - Nebraska, Kearney
Job Title
- Registered Nurse (RN) - ICU
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- ICU with 33 beds (average daily census: 16)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common patient diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac issues, overdose/substance abuse, adult sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
Shift & Scheduling
- Shifts: 06:30-18:30 and 18:30-06:30 (12-hour shifts)
- Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers
- Block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Orientation: 1 shift unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs required to titrate drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation)
- RNs troubleshoot respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Monitor/telemetry interpretation and documentation required (monitor brand: GE)
- Floating typically to PCU or occasionally MedSurg with typical patient ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- RN license required
- BLS, ACLS, NIHSS certifications required
- Valid driver’s license required at submittal (used to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius)
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to remove will result in contract termination
- RN skills exam during orientation: open book, must pass with 90% or higher or contract terminated
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Minimum holiday and weekend shifts required
- No duo scheduling or shared car arrangements allowed
