Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – IMC (2 West)
Location: Sumter, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: Nights
- Unit: Intermediate Medical Care (IMC), 24-bed adult unit
- Patient Population: Adults requiring neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry care
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required as needed to other units or campuses where qualified; facility prioritizes home unit assignments
- Call Off Policy: Allowed 1 shift off per 2 weeks
- Locals Accepted: Yes, with radius rule applied
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
- Pending License: Not accepted; must have active South Carolina or multistate license
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in IMC with neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry experience
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (but first-time travelers not accepted)
- Charting System Experience: Minimum 1 year of EPIC experience required
Required Certifications
- ACLS (American Heart Association or ARC; RQI acceptable)
- BLS (American Heart Association or ARC; RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC, ENPC, PALS, NRP, MAB or CPI) – check unit specifics
Required Skills & Competencies
- IV starts, port access, PICC, central & peripheral line care
- Blood product administration
- Respiratory care: trach management, oxygen delivery (nasal cannula, masks, portable O2, HFNC, CPAP/BIPAP), chest tubes, ABG interpretation, non-invasive support
- GI care: feeding tube management
- Medication administration: PCA, procedural sedation, heparin protocols, managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
- Cardiovascular care: post-MI care, cardiac caths & angiograms, dysrhythmia management & interpretation, telemetry monitoring
- Additional competencies: wound care/wound vac, isolation precautions, renal failure, pre/post hemodialysis, rapid response team participation
Licensure & Compliance
- Must have an active South Carolina or multistate nursing license with primary source verification
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Background checks including 7-year history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and fingerprinting (if applicable) required
- Drug screening within 1 year and updated annually
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if working in high-risk areas)
- Flu vaccine or approved exemption (seasonal requirement)
- Hepatitis B documentation or declination
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
- Respirator fit test completed onsite during orientation
Orientation & Testing Requirements
- Online orientation modules must be completed within 72 hours of assignment
- Pre-assignment testing (medication and arrhythmia tests) required within 72 hours of receiving login info; two attempts allowed
- EKG practice test and study guide provided for telemetry and related units
- Medication and pharmacology competency exams required annually
- Core training parts I, II, and III required annually (covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, etc.)
- Floating policy acknowledgment required annually
Additional Notes
- All scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) must be submitted with application and approved by facility
- Badge photo required prior to start (passport style, plain background, no obstructions)
- Facility is a 283-bed Joint Commission-accredited acute care hospital with a variety of specialty services including cardiac care, orthopedics, maternity, cancer treatment, and robotic-assisted surgery
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with strong skills in neuro stepdown and cardiac telemetry who are looking for a travel contract in South Carolina with a reputable healthcare system.
