Travel RN - Step Down / PCU Unit

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Work in a 34-bed Stepdown/PCU unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:5 (may fluctuate with census)
  • Use Meditech EMR system
  • Schedule: 36 hours worked / 48 hours off over a two-week pay period
  • Orientation provided bi-weekly
  • Must reside within 100 miles of the facility

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2+ years of current RN Step Down experience

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Kentucky RN license or compact license valid in Kentucky
  • BLS (American Heart Association certified; front and back of card required if not electronic)
  • ACLS (required for all RNs except Psych and OR)
  • NIH Certification (required for RN specialties except OR and Psych)
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start

Required Immunizations & Health Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine or approved exemption
  • Proof of 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer (or first dose prior to start with second dose within 28-30 days)
  • Proof of 3 Hepatitis B vaccine series or declination
  • Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive titer (or first dose prior to start with second dose within 28-30 days)
  • Tdap vaccine valid within last 10 years (Td not accepted; declinations accepted)
  • Annual physical or physician statement within 1 year prior to start, stating clear to work without restrictions
  • Influenza vaccine (required October-March) or approved medical/religious exemption
  • TB Quantiferon blood test within 1 year prior to start
  • If positive TB record, proof of chest X-ray within last 5 years plus TB questionnaire

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days prior to start including 7-year county, nationwide criminal, SSN trace, sex offender registry, SAM, OIG, EPLS, OFAC, and national sex offender checks
  • Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (includes multiple substances; marijuana/THC excluded)
  • Verification of education and employment (7 years of relevant experience required to verify)
  • Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification within 30 days prior to start (Kentucky)
  • Two professional references required (one charge or higher, one supervisor reference within last year)
  • Submission of ARH-specific documentation packet including cover sheet, resume, skills checklist, license/certification verification, and assignment confirmation within 24 hours of offer acceptance

Skills & Competency Requirements

  • Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year prior to start
  • Competency exam within 1 year prior to start (actual documents required; certificates not accepted)
  • EKG and Telemetry exam within 1 year prior to start (actual documents required; certificates not accepted)
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, patient rights, safety orientation, bloodborne pathogens, fire safety, infection control, elder abuse and neglect, age-specific care, cultural diversity, advance directives (annual update required)

  • Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
  • Start date is flexible based on need
  • Candidates must not submit to more than one job at a time
