Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg Innovations

Location: Fargo, North Dakota
Specialty: Med Surg Innovations RN
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years recent bedside nursing experience in a large hospital setting (250+ beds)
    • Experience in a busy Level 1 trauma center
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Active North Dakota RN license or Compact RN license
    • Active BLS certification (AHA required)
  • Skills:
    • EPIC experience (please specify on resume where used)
    • Ability to float to all units/locations within Fargo as needed
    • Thorough attention to detail and strong communication skills
  • Prior Travel Experience:
    • Travel experience is highly preferred (not explicitly required)

Job Description

  • Provide nursing care to adult patients on a 32-bed medical-surgical unit (all single rooms)
  • Perform head-to-toe and focused assessments
  • Administer medications
  • Communicate with interdisciplinary team members
  • Update patients and families on plan of care
  • Advocate for patients as needed
  • Document all care provided

Work Environment & Equipment

  • Unit uses EPIC, OmniCell, Philips Care Monitors, glucometers, bladder scanners, Language Line, Zebra phones
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio:
    • 0700-2300: 1:4-5
    • 2300-0700: 1:5-6

Schedule

  • 12-hour shifts, rotating day/night shifts
  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • Shift rotation varies by unit needs; may work several weeks of days or nights consecutively
  • Self-scheduling allowed but days off guaranteed only as per contract; shift trades encouraged to maintain unit balance
  • Efforts made to minimize frequent day/night shift flipping

Orientation & Training

  • 8-hour classroom training in the LEAD Center
  • Followed by 24 hours of unit-specific training

Additional Notes

  • Must be willing to float to other med-surg units within the facility system
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Travelers living within 60 miles of the facility are not eligible
  • Travelers living 60-80 miles away may receive a reduced travel rate
  • Candidates who have previously worked for the facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs comfortable in a fast-paced, trauma center environment with flexibility to float across units.
