Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg Telemetry
Location: Cortez, Colorado
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide nursing care to patients primarily on a Medical-Surgical unit with the ability to float to ICU 30%-40% of the time. Deliver safe, efficient, and courteous care using appropriate nursing procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of patient growth and development, disease processes, and clinical needs. Utilize critical thinking and information technologies to improve patient outcomes.
Required Experience
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) in Med Surg Telemetry
- Years of Experience: 3-5 years (higher value from description)
- ICU Experience: Minimum 1 year ICU/Inpatient experience preferred for ICU float
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate degree required; Bachelor’s preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse license in Colorado (Compact license accepted; Colorado license must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Current BLS certification
- Current ACLS certification (within 6 months of hire)
- Current PALS certification (within 6 months of hire; can be obtained at facility if not currently held)
- Successful completion of EKG course within 4 months of hire
- For Family Birthing Care (FBC) float: Basic fetal monitoring course and NRP certification within 4 months of hire
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
- Strong organizational, customer service, and active listening skills
- Basic computer knowledge
Job Responsibilities
- Practice within nursing standards, hospital policies, and accreditation standards
- Provide patient-centered care and assist physicians with rounds, procedures, and progress reports
- Supervise non-professional staff and act as a resource for less experienced team members
- Administer medications following proper procedures, including controlled substances and EMAR scanning
- Participate in in-service training, departmental meetings, and resuscitation drills
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all regulatory and organizational policies
- Float to ICU 30%-40% of the time, providing care including telemetry monitoring and arrhythmia interpretation
- Assist in other departments as needed
- Initiate and revise patient care plans based on co-morbidities and patient status
- Document nursing care accurately and timely using technology
- Maintain knowledge of patient status and adjust care plans accordingly
- Participate in quality improvement and safety initiatives
- Demonstrate flexibility with working hours and shifts to meet staffing needs
Unit-Specific Duties (for ICU and Family Birthing Care float)
- Intensive Care Unit: Advanced cardiac monitoring, ventilator/BiPAP management, critical drips, trauma alerts, rapid sequence intubation, CVP and A-line monitoring
- Family Birthing Care: Antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum care including complications, fetal monitoring, newborn care, epidural, induction, newborn hearing screening, infant security, EMTALA compliance, photo therapy, pre-term care
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors
- Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors
- Exposure to environmental elements such as heat, cold, precipitation, and wind
- Physical demands include lifting up to 100 lbs occasionally, frequent kneeling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing, and visual acuity including color vision
