Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - Medsurg

Location: Oakes, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Medsurg
• Bed Count: 20 beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Falls, CHF, bowel obstruction, A-fib, Swingbed patients, and more
• Critical Access Hospital environment with a close-knit, team-oriented culture

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• NIHSS
• TNCC (if ER nurse)

Required Skills and Experience

• Confident in assessments, infusion pumps, medication administration
• Strong social skills, teamwork, and reliability
• ER experience preferred but not required; first-time travelers are welcome
• Nurses are required to titrate drips (e.g., Insulin, Heparin, Levophed, Amiodarone)
• Nurses read and document their own cardiac monitor strips (Mindray Monitors)
• Manage respiratory equipment and administer respiratory treatments (Hamilton C1 ventilator with CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow)
• Experience in critical access facilities is appreciated

Scheduling and Work Environment

• Shifts: 7a-7p or 7p-7a
• Scheduling: Manager scheduled with block scheduling available depending on staffing
• Schedule posted 6 weeks in advance
• Weekend Requirement: Every 3rd weekend or more if desired
• Holiday Requirement: Desired participation in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Floating: May float to ER to assist; flexibility appreciated
• Orientation: 3-6 shifts depending on staff availability
• Scrubs: Provided, no specific color required

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse is present 24/7 but does not take patient assignments
• CNAs and PCTs assist with vital signs, charting, I&Os, and ADLs
• No respiratory therapists on unit; nurses manage respiratory care
• Team-oriented environment where staff wear many hats

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license for Medsurg specialty
• Required specialty experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1 year Medsurg experience based on typical expectations
• Prior travel experience: Not required (first-time travelers are acceptable)
