Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Travel/Contract
Location: Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin
Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 5x8 hour day shifts (start time may vary)
- Start Date: ASAP with multiple start dates available
- Call: None
- Weekends: Minimum 4 weekend shifts per contract, every third weekend required
- Floating: Not required
- Accepts First Time Travelers: Yes, based on experience
- Locals Accepted: Yes, at a lower rate
Job Responsibilities
- Provide daily respiratory treatments, ventilator management, BiPAP, Airvo checks, and PRN treatments
- Respond to codes, bedside procedures, and maintain patient charts with documentation of therapies
- Attend all emergency responses including Codes, STEMI, Stroke, Trauma, Mass Transfusion alerts, Sepsis and Trauma ACT if called
- Assist with CPR, intubation, equipment setup during emergencies (usually two RTs present)
- Assist patients with BiPAP/CPAP for medication, eating, or comfort needs
- Transport patients on respiratory equipment or oxygen ≥6 Lpm for testing, transfers, and physical therapy
- Perform bedside pulmonary function tests (PFTs) and send results to Pulmonology
- Conduct overnight pulse oximetry testing and bedside bronchoscopies with disposable scopes
- Draw and analyze arterial blood gases (ABGs) for ICU and critical patients
- Perform scheduled Cough Assist, IPV, and CPT therapies
- Support neonatal care including surfactant delivery and bagging medications in the nursery
- Manage respiratory equipment cleaning, supply maintenance, bronch cart, Glidescope machines, and perform EKGs during tech absences
- Conduct brain death testing, set up Nitric Oxide in OR and ICU, and Heliox setup
- Notify management of gas and supply needs
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) recommended but not mandatory for this role
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) as required
Required Qualifications
- Must hold a current RRT license
- Prior travel experience is not required (first-time travelers accepted based on experience)
- Ability to manage 10-15+ patients across multiple floors
- Experience with emergency response and critical care respiratory procedures
Compliance and Health Requirements
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative TB test (QGold) within 1 year; chest X-ray within 60 days of start if applicable
- Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Negative 10-panel drug screen with expanded opiates within 14 days of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-Mar)
- Two professional references verified within 2 years of start
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable

- Must be able to attend all emergency codes and respond promptly
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Must maintain all respiratory therapy equipment and supplies
