Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER) (Nights)

Location: Sault St. Marie, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Room setting.
  • Triage patients, obtain patient history and vital signs, and assess patients.
  • Act independently to initiate immediate care in life-threatening situations when a physician is absent.
  • Care for both acutely ill and non-acute patients.
  • Perform multiple nursing procedures, both complex and simple.
  • Assist physicians with procedures.
  • Provide physical and psychological comfort to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Provide discharge and follow-up instructions.
  • Manage ambulance radio communications and give appropriate prehospital care orders independently.
  • Work with sophisticated medical equipment in a frequently stressful environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform nursing assessments, intervene promptly, and participate in care planning (25%).
  • Regularly assess patient needs and provide skilled nursing services as prescribed (25%).
  • Process physician/provider orders accurately and timely, follow up on medication changes and clarifications (20%).
  • Evaluate treatment plan effectiveness and suggest improvements (15%).
  • Collaborate with team members to update and revise treatment plans (15%).

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty Experience: Minimum 2+ years of Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience.
  • Prior Travel Experience: Highly preferred but not required.
  • Licenses & Certifications:
    • Active Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) License.
    • American Heart Association BLS (Basic Life Support).
    • American Heart Association ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
    • American Heart Association PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support).
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification.
    • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification.

Additional Information

  • Facility is a 49-bed hospital specializing in rural medicine and designated as a Level IV Trauma Center.
  • EMR system used: Epic.
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4.
  • Dress code: Navy Blue Scrubs.
  • Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility (local candidates not considered).
  • Scheduling requests must be submitted at the time of application; no changes allowed after offer.

This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses seeking a temporary assignment in a rural, high-quality care environment with a focus on trauma and emergency services.
