Job Opportunity: Cardiac RN

Location: Pikeville, Kentucky
Employment Type: Nursing (Contract)
Contract Length: 8 weeks


Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients using the nursing process within established standards and practices.


Essential Functions

  • Provide direct patient care, evaluate outcomes, and adjust nursing care as needed.
  • Perform head-to-toe assessments and re-assessments per policy.
  • Deliver individualized, age-specific care supporting hemostatic regulation, hemodynamic monitoring, and physiologic functioning.
  • Maintain accurate nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and responses.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; maintain confidentiality and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
  • Function as a patient advocate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Collaborate with patients and families to develop and update individualized care plans daily.
  • Develop and evaluate patient and family teaching plans.
  • Supervise and allocate work to other healthcare staff.
  • Assist physicians with procedures in the department.
  • Respond promptly to workload changes to maintain productivity and efficiency.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.
  • Serve as a preceptor to orient new employees.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through education and training.
  • Maintain and operate patient care equipment; ensure supply stock and equipment functionality.
  • Demonstrate flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stress.
  • Meet all department-specific competencies.
  • Perform housekeeping and assist with patient transportation as needed.
  • Adhere to dress code, infection control, safety, and personnel policies.
  • Serve as team leader and role model for staff.

Required Qualifications

  • Specialty: Cardiac RN
  • Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 2 years in Cardiac Nursing based on specialty requirements.
  • Licensure: Valid RN license in Kentucky required.
  • Skills/Competencies:
    • Competency in cardiac monitoring and care of patients pre/post CABG and interventional cardiac procedures.
    • Experience with specialized procedures and equipment including:
      • Maintaining/pulling sheaths
      • Angioseal/Vasoseal
      • Specialized medication drips and titration
      • ACT machine operation
      • Sedation and pain management
      • Chest tube care and insertion
      • TPN/PPN administration
      • Central lines and IV therapy including IVADD and infusion therapy
      • Information management systems
  • Ability to assist physicians with procedures.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

Prior Travel Experience
