Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (ER) - North Carolina

Job Details

  • Patient Population: General, neonates to centenarians
  • Unit Size: 12 rooms/beds
  • Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-6
  • Unit Documentation System: MediTech (older version)
  • Communication: SBAR with bedside handoff
  • Orientation: 24 hours hospital orientation
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • EKG Test: Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Skills: IV Start, Telemetry, ER setting
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred Skills and Certifications

  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Conscious sedation
  • Triage

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
  • Must pass EKG competency exam (minimum score 82%, three attempts allowed)
  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific registry searches within 90 days prior to start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (or within 30 days if past positive TB)
  • Fit testing for N95 mask (PAPR training not accepted at this facility)
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start (negative 10-panel drug screen)
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (vaccine required)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray per protocol
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or facility-specific declination if negative/equivocal)
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing within 1 year
  • Employment application and professional references as per Aya requirements

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of Non-Novant Health Worker Orientation (approx. 8 hours) for North Carolina travel candidates
  • Compliance with hospital policies including confidentiality agreement, tobacco-free campus acknowledgement, and medication safety training
  • Badge photo submission (passport style, white background, business attire)
  • Annual compliance and mandatory education training as required
  • Physical and health documentation must be current and uploaded prior to start

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are welcome.
  • Candidates must be prepared for night shifts and weekend rotations.
  • The unit uses an older version of MediTech for documentation.
  • Navy scrubs are required.
  • EKG competency testing is mandatory before starting the assignment.
  • Flu vaccination or exemption documentation must be submitted by October 31 during flu season.
  • The facility does not accept PAPR training in lieu of N95 fit testing.

This position is ideal for Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of ER experience who are comfortable working nights and meeting the specified certification and compliance requirements.
