Description
Job Opportunity: TDY Respiratory Therapist
Location: Bethel, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks
Job Summary
Provide full scope cardiopulmonary services to patients of all ages, ensuring care is delivered with respect for patient rights and dignity. Assist in problem solving related to patient care.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an AMA-accredited Respiratory Therapy program or equivalent, approved by the National Board for Respiratory Care with an Associate’s Degree.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year clinical experience in respiratory treatment of hospital patients.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- National Board of Respiratory Care credentials (CRTT, CRT, RT, or RRT) required.
- Must have current BLS certification.
- ACLS and PALS certifications are encouraged.
- Additional Requirements: Proof of completed COVID-19 vaccinations required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret physician orders, technical manuals, and hospital policies.
- Effective communication with physicians, managers, clients, and patients.
- Ability to explain respiratory treatment modalities to patients and use interpreters when necessary.
- Accurate documentation and report writing skills.
- Mathematical skills for dosage calculations and data interpretation.
- Reasoning skills to define problems, collect data, and draw conclusions.
Cardiopulmonary Technical Skills
- Airway management, CPR, intubation assistance
- Ventilator operation and management
- Arterial blood gas (ABG) procurement and analysis
- Chest physiotherapy and patient suctioning techniques
- Sample procurement for RSV and AFB
- Knowledge of respiratory therapy medications, delivery methods, indications, and contraindications
- Pulmonary function testing (PFT)
Equipment Experience
- Adult, pediatric, and infant ventilators
- Bag valve masks, pulse oximeters, suction equipment
- Oxygen cylinders and concentrators, nebulizers, supplemental O2 delivery devices
- Pulmonary function equipment, treadmill/stress testing equipment
- EKG machines, Holter and event monitors
- ISTAT arterial blood gas analyzer
