Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Assignment on HVTI-Stepdown unit.
- Rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm (3x12 hour shifts only). Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation.
Required Experience
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel.
- Minimum 18 months of recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted).
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Must have a permanent Ohio nursing license or a compact state license in hand.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross).
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required.
Prior Travel Experience
- Not explicitly required.
Orientation & Testing
- ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate testing during orientation; passing scores required.
- Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
- Pass/Fail ECG & Medication testing required for all bedside RNs (except OR). Retake available after 1 week if failed.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted).
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive. Annual TB questionnaire if applicable.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer with booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination documentation.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer with booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31). Declinations not accepted.
Background & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search and education verification. Must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprint attestation required.
Additional Requirements
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area to assignment.
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
- Annual skills checklist required.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome).
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required.
- Pass/fail testing acknowledgement required for all nursing positions except OR.
Summary
This is a 13-week travel contract for a Registered Nurse with Stepdown unit experience in Cleveland, Ohio. Candidates must have at least 18 months of permanent Stepdown nursing experience, a valid Ohio or compact nursing license, and required certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS. The role requires rotating 12-hour shifts and working at least every other holiday. Comprehensive health, background, and compliance documentation is mandatory prior to start. Orientation includes competency testing and medication safety exams.
