Travel/Contract Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Assignment in a Stepdown unit (HVTI-Stepdown)
  • Rotating day/night shifts (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm) with 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week)
  • Shift rotation may be adjusted based on hospital operational needs
  • Must work at least every other holiday

Required Experience

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
  • Minimum 18 months recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Permanent Ohio RN license or Compact State RN license in hand
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or American Red Cross)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation

Additional Requirements

  • Must pass background checks including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually)
  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates starting 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tdap every 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted)
  • Drug screening (standard 10 panel) within 12 months of start, updated annually
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • Pass/fail testing for ECG and medication dosing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts)
  • References: 2 professional references from within 1 year of start, from a manager or supervisor (co-worker references not accepted)
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area to assignment

Prior Travel Experience

  • Travel experience is accepted to meet the Stepdown experience requirement
  • No explicit prior travel experience required beyond this

Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for rotating shifts and holiday work
  • Orientation includes competency exams and safety manual acknowledgements
  • Fingerprinting must be completed both through the agency and onsite at the facility
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months between Cleveland Clinic assignments may need to repeat onboarding modules and orientation

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with strong acute care skills and the ability to work flexible shifts in a high-acuity hospital setting.
