Job Opportunity: Radiation Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) - Outpatient
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Oncology)
- Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
- Weekend Requirement: No
- On-call Requirement: No
- Floating: Yes, may float between three clinics, primarily at one main facility
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- 2 to 3 years of RN experience required
- Experience with Epic electronic health records required
- Oncology experience highly preferred
- Outpatient clinic experience highly preferred
- Licensure:
- South Carolina RN license or Multi-state Compact RN license required
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required (AHA or ARC accepted)
- Radiation badge required (agency must provide)
- Chemotherapy certification preferred (or similar)
- Other:
- Radiation badge mandatory before starting patient care; may take 5-7 days to process
- First-time travelers considered
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Important Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks:
- Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
- Includes SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education Verification: Required
- Work History Verification: Last 3 clinical employers verified; attestation letters accepted only if other verification methods exhausted
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment Application: Must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical Exam: Initial and annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit Mask Test: N95 fit test within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series required; boosters if low titer
- Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start; no instant tests accepted
- COVID-19: Vaccination not required but highly preferred; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30); medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations; documentation deadline December 5th
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS: Recommended but not explicitly required for this outpatient oncology role
- Other Certifications:
- PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM as applicable (not specifically required for this role)
- Competency Exams: Medication and general competency exams required as applicable
- Color Blind Testing: Required prior to start
Facility Specific Requirements
- Orientation: Completion of online modules prior to start; failure to complete results in being sent home
- Photo for Badge: Clear, passport-style photo with solid light background, frontal view, business casual attire, no hats or sunglasses
- Radiation Badge: Must be obtained before starting patient care; process may take 5-7 days
- Local Radius: 60 miles
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
Additional Notes
- During hurricane season (June-November, peak Aug-Sept), all employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams. Candidates unable to commit during this time should not accept assignments.
