Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room (ER)

Location: New Martinsville, West Virginia
Specialty: ER (Cost Center 51)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Unit: Emergency Room (12 beds, including 2 trauma bays)
• Shift: Night shifts, 1845-0715 (3 - 12 hour shifts weekly)
• Scheduling: Block schedules and self-scheduling allowed
• Patient Volume: Approximately 20 patients per day
• Patient Types: Geriatrics, some pediatrics, pneumonia, CHF, COPD
• Patient Ratios: 1:6 depending on staffing and acuity; 2 RNs per shift
• Fast Track: No fast track; triage occurs in the room
• Psych/Seclusion Rooms: 1 preferred psych/seclusion room; all rooms are multi-purpose
• Security: No on-site security; staff calls 911 if needed
• EMR System: EPIC
• Phlebotomy: ER nurses draw their own labs; must be able to perform ABGs
• Radiology: Portable chest radiology available; main radiology department located behind ER
• Call/Standby: None
• Floating: No floating outside the ER
• Dress Code: Any color or prints allowed
• Orientation: 1 day with a preceptor

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) license required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • PALS (AHA)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Experience: Preferably more than 1 year of ER nursing experience
• Skills: Must be confident and able to perform ABGs; strong clinical skills for 12-hour night shifts and weekend coverage as scheduled

Additional Information

• Team: ED Physicians present (1 per shift), no charge nurse on nights, CMA support during mid shifts
• Respiratory Therapy: RT coverage limited; RN bags patients until RT arrives if needed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday (EOH)
• Scheduling Notes: Supervisor collaborates with staff on schedule to meet unit needs

This position is ideal for an experienced ER nurse comfortable with night shifts, weekend work, and a fast-paced environment requiring strong clinical skills and teamwork.
