Description
Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Shiloh, Illinois
Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital (Magnet)
Beds: 97
Charting System: EPIC
Shift: Nights (ICU)
Schedule: Every other weekend required
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (3 shifts of 12 hours)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years ICU experience (outside of orientation)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Floating: May float within scope to Medical Cardiology or Med/Surg units
- On-call: Not required
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Local Radius Rule: 75 miles (locals not accepted)
- Pending License: Not accepted
- Return to Orientation (RTO) Restrictions: 7 days within 13-week contract
- Patient Ratio: 1:1 to 1:2 in a 6-bed ICU
- Work Environment: Self-motivated autonomy; intensivist consult via Tele-ICU at times; relief charge nurse role possible
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB) – verify with unit specifics
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
- Criminal Background Check (7-year search, including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (quarterly updates required)
- Education Verification (highest nursing education)
- State License Verification (primary source verification required)
- NURSYS Verification for RN licenses
- Drug Testing (within 1 year, must include specific panels)
- Physical Exam (within 1 year)
- Fit Mask Testing (annual renewal required)
- Immunizations and Health Documents:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (with yearly questionnaire)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
- Hepatitis B declination form required (vaccination not mandatory)
- Facility-specific documents including HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hand Hygiene, Fingernail, and Dress Code Policies
- Badge Photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Employment Application and References (two professional references required)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists (updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be self-motivated and able to work autonomously in a small ICU setting.
- Floating to other units may be required within scope of practice.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
- Returning candidates to the same role/unit/facility may have some background/license approvals carried over.
- Orientation modules are required for all RNs and LVNs unless completed within the last 6 months or 1 year as specified.
This position offers a challenging ICU night shift role in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital with a supportive Tele-ICU intensivist consult model and a focus on autonomy and critical care nursing skills.
