Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Unit: Medical Surgical / Remote Telemetry
  • Typical Diagnoses: Diabetes, med/surg, post-op, wound vacs, bariatrics
  • Ratio / Census: 1:5-6 nurse to patient ratio; 33 beds with average daily census of 28
  • Electronic Systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Shift Guarantee: 36 or 48 hours guaranteed
  • Schedule: Every other weekend off (unless otherwise specified)
  • Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Call Requirements: None
  • Holiday Work: Expected to work major holidays during assignment (up to 2 holidays if 3 fall within assignment)
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: 1 year (1st time travelers accepted)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain specialties; check if applicable
  • Other Certifications: PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on specialty area (verify if applicable)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start, including criminal, sex offender, education verification, and others as specified
  • Licenses: State license verification required within 30 days prior to start (Georgia RN license required)
  • Education Verification: Required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
  • Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable under certain conditions
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
    • TB questionnaire updated annually
    • Immunizations: MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season
  • Competency Exams: Medication test, color blind test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (specific to telemetry and related units)
  • References: Two clinical references required (Aya requirement)
  • Skills Checklist: Updated within 12 months
  • Work History Verification: Required for most recent employer; can be pending at start with proof of processing

Additional Notes

  • Orientation Hours: Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrub color
  • Professional Policies: Candidates must review and sign code of conduct and dress/professional appearance policies prior to start
  • Local Candidates: Accepted at the same rate as travelers
