Travel Registered Nurse (Stepdown/Med Surg Overflow)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse for Stepdown/Med Surg Overflow unit at a Level I Trauma Center. This is a travel contract position with a start date ASAP.


Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest stated requirement)
  • Level I Trauma experience required
  • Large hospital experience required
  • Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
  • First-time travelers NOT accepted
  • Locals NOT accepted (100-mile radius rule)

Work Schedule & Ratios

  • Shift length: 36 or 48 hours (schedule may change during interview)
  • Patient ratio: 1:6 or 1:7
  • On-call as needed
  • Weekend coverage as needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend block may be considered)

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must hold a valid Tennessee RN license or multistate license compliant with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines
  • Pending licenses NOT accepted
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background check within 60 days of start (statewide, county, federal, education verification)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (facility-specific)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance allowed)
  • Immunizations:
    • TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) proof of vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Varicella proof of vaccination or positive titer with boosters if needed
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series or positive titer or signed declination
    • Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluations required if employed with agency for one year or more
  • Photo badge with strict guidelines required prior to start
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed

Notes

  • All Return to Office (RTO) restrictions must be included at time of submission; no changes after offer
  • No submission to multiple job IDs/facilities allowed; candidates must select top choice

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with trauma and large hospital experience who meet all licensure and certification requirements and are ready for a 13-week travel assignment in a Level I Trauma Center setting.
