Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - PCU/Stepdown
Location: South Charleston, West Virginia

Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit: PCU - Stepdown
- Beds: 11 (expanding to 12 following ICU expansion later in 2023)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
- Monitor Tech available 24/7; RNs read telemetry strips
- Floating required to ICU, Stepdown, Med-Surg Telemetry, and Emergency Department as needed
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Rotational
Patient Population / Common Diagnoses
- Post-op vascular patients
- Hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias
- CVA (stroke)
- Sepsis
- Renal patients
- Stable acute MI
- Unstable angina
- Post Cardiac Cath with PCTA or significant blockage
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS
- NIHSS
Required Experience & Skills
- 1-2 years critical care experience (higher value from description)
- Prior travel experience required
- ICU skill set required due to floating
- Experience with:
- Bipap, Cpap
- Mechanical ventilation
- Telemetry
- Critical drips
- Post cardiac cath care
- Preferred but not required: CRRT and IABP experience
Preferred Experience
- Arterial line experience
- Post Fem Pop
- Post Endarterectomy
- ECAR
- TVAR
Nursing Responsibilities
- RNs required to titrate drips
- Common titratable/set rate drips include: Insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, low dose Dopamine
- Nurses assist with general care and unit clerk duties as needed
- Charge Nurse ICU available as resource; Charge Nurse assigned in PCU
Support Staff & Equipment
- One Patient Care Technician (CNA) per 10 patients
- RT equipment includes: Cpap, Bipap, High flow O2, Mechanical ventilation via Tracheostomy, specialty beds, IV pumps
Orientation & Work Schedule
- First day: General hospital orientation
- Full day nursing orientation for RNs
- Computer training: 1/2 day for CNAs, full day for nurses
- Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor
- Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due within 90 days
- 12-hour night shifts, rotating weekends and holidays
Dress Code
- RN/LPN: Navy scrubs
- CNAs/Monitor Techs: Dark grey/pewter scrubs
- Scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery or patterns
- Approved fleece zip-ups in grey, black, navy, or royal blue allowed
- Solid undershirts in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
- Closed-toed shoes only; no crocs
