Job Description

Seeking Med Surg Registered Nurses for both day and night shifts in a hospital setting.

Unit Details

• Units: 5T and 7T
• Beds: 5T (34 beds), 7T (36 beds)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Common Diagnoses:

  • 5T: Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), Diabetes Mellitus (DM)
  • 7T: COPD, Sepsis, Altered Mental Status (AMS), UTI, Acute Kidney Injury (AKI), Diabetes, COVID, Anemia, Weakness

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) required for 5T unit only

Clinical Responsibilities

• Drip Titration:

  • 5T: No drip titration required
  • 7T: Heparin drip titration allowed with pharmacist direction; set rate drips including Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Cardizem (stable doses)
• Telemetry:

  • 5T: No telemetry techs on unit; RNs must be able to read cardiac strips
  • 7T: No telemetry techs on floor; monitoring managed by central monitoring room (Phillips monitors)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment:

  • 5T: High flow oxygen, CPAP, BiPAP
  • 7T: All oxygen modalities up to BiPAP; no ventilators

Scheduling & Shifts

• 5T: Modified self-scheduling
• 7T: Contract employees do not self-schedule; block scheduling accommodated when possible
• Weekend Requirement: 4 shifts per 4 weeks
• Holiday Requirement:

  • 5T: 1 major and 2 minor holidays in winter
  • 7T: Thanksgiving or Christmas plus New Year’s or New Year’s Eve, and one summer holiday (July 4th or Memorial Day)
• Call or Standby: Not required for contract staff
• Floating: Required within the medical-surgical division

Orientation

• 5T: 2 shifts of unit-specific orientation
• 7T: One week of PCPO at education center plus two 12-hour shifts on assigned unit

Additional Information

• Nurse aides available; goal ratio ≤ 1:12
• Charge nurse role may be assigned based on census or staffing needs
• Scrub color: Ceil Blue (5T); not specified for 7T
• Radius rule: 100 miles

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alabama
• Minimum of 1 year Med Surg nursing experience within the last year
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification required for 5T unit
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
