Job Opportunity: Pediatric Critical Care Float Pool RN
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Pediatric Critical Care float pool Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM), totaling 36 hours/week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend plus holiday rotation
- Patient Ratios: 1:2 or 1:3
- Float: RN will float within scope to all Pediatric units including CVPICU, NICU, PICU
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience requirements
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric ICU experience (highest required years of experience)
- Preferred experience with ECMO and CRRT
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Licensure & Certifications
- South Carolina RN License or Multi-State/Compact State RN License required
- Certifications required (American Heart Association - AHA only):
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Preferred/Additional Certifications:
- ACLS (not required for pediatric units)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - not required for ER RNs
- Certification notes:
- Certifications must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of start date
- Renewal or scheduled courses required if certifications are near expiration
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval, depending on unit needs
- Local radius: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Hurricane Season (June - November): Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during this period
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7 years of history, SSN trace, sex offender registry, national criminal, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- Education verification and diploma/transcripts preferred
- Primary source verification of state license required
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination:
- Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Varicella (chickenpox)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30), medical/religious exemptions accepted but no declinations
- TB testing: T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required
- COVID vaccines highly preferred but not required; vaccination records must be uploaded or declination form completed
Competency Exams & Additional Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing required prior to start
- Competency exam required; pediatric OR candidates may use regular OR competency exam if no pediatric experience
- Clear, passport-style photo required for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
Notes
- Travelers must complete all required orientation modules prior to start; failure to complete may result in being sent home
- Facility may require submission and approval of requested time off (RTO) based on unit needs
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Employment application must include all PTO, contract assignments, agency names, and no unaccounted gaps
- Radiation badge required only for specific units (not applicable for this pediatric float pool role)
