Shift Details

• 12-hour shifts
• Shift times include: 7a-7p, 10a-10p, 11a-11p, 12p-midnight, 7p-7a
• Flexibility to work all shifts is important
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or as needed
• Holiday requirement: Rotate with core staff; likely working some holidays but not all

Department & Patient Population

• Emergency Department with 24 beds
• Trauma Level: Emergency care, non-trauma; STEMI/Stroke ready; Cath lab availability varies
• Patient volume: 60-80 patients per 24 hours
• Patient acuity: Neonates to geriatrics, common diagnoses include respiratory viruses, MI, MVA, behavioral health patients (4 behavioral health safe rooms)
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: Approximately 1:4-5, adjusted based on staffing and acuity
• No separate fast track; triage area present but travelers typically not assigned there
• Nurses care for patients in holding and psych/seclusion rooms

Required Qualifications

• Illinois RN license required
• Minimum 3+ years of ER nursing experience (higher experience requirement noted in description)
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC, TNCC or TNS, NIHSS
• Moderate sedation experience preferred
• Ability to handle critical care drips
• Flexibility for rotating start times
• First-time travelers are welcome

Job Responsibilities & Environment

• Provide emergency nursing care including moderate sedation and lumbar puncture
• Manage a wide range of patient conditions from minor injuries to critical emergencies
• Collaborate with ED physicians and mid-level providers; physician coverage 24/7
• Work with charge nurses, house supervisors, and ED techs (CNA/EMT/Paramedic roles)
• Assist with blood draws, EKGs, wound care, patient transport, and room stocking
• Nurses may perform breathing treatments; respiratory therapists available as needed
• Use ESI rating system for triage
• Read and interpret patient monitors; no tele tech monitoring
• Coordinate with imaging staff for X-ray and CT transports

Orientation & Other Information

• Department-specific orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each)
• No call or standby requirements
• Potential floating to Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, or ICU units depending on experience
• Professional solid color scrubs required
• In-house security available 24/7 near the ER

Prior Travel Experience

• Not required; first-time travelers are accepted
