Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hood River, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position. First-time travelers are welcome. The role involves floating between units as needed and requires weekend availability every other weekend.


Work Environment

  • Facility Type: Critical Access / Level III Trauma Center
  • Total Staffed Beds: 25
  • Teaching Hospital
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrub Color: Any color allowed; scrubs provided for OR, Critical Care, ED, and Maternal Child units
  • Parking: No fee

Schedule & Floating

  • Floating between units is required based on unit needs.
  • No on-call required.
  • Weekends required every other weekend.
  • No block schedules required.
  • Expected nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • 1:1 for active labor
    • 1:3 for postpartum (following AWHONN Staffing Standards)
  • Floating to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance may be required.
  • Travelers floating to certain locations may receive additional incentives and accommodations.
  • Must have a vehicle for assignment.

Required Qualifications

  • License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Oregon.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of Labor, Delivery, Recovery, and Postpartum (LDRP) nursing experience preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation certification
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Current certification by AAP, AHA, or Canadian Paediatric Society
    • Additional certifications may be required based on unit needs (e.g., ACLS, PALS, EFM)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-time travelers are accepted.

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • Education verification (nursing degree).
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start.
  • Immunizations and health documents including:
    • TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Respirator clearance (RespSafety) for travel candidates starting on or after 2/5/2024.
  • References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.

Training & Competency Requirements

  • Completion of Providence Health and Services required WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
    • Annual regulatory requirements
    • Specialty-specific modules for Labor and Delivery
    • Regional and facility-specific training modules
  • Competency exams as applicable, including medication and fetal monitoring competencies.
  • Epic charting system training modules required.

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy acknowledgment required.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, multi-unit environment with flexibility.
  • Scrubs provided for specific units; general scrub color is flexible.
  • No on-call shifts required.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a supportive teaching hospital environment with a focus on Labor and Delivery nursing, with flexibility for travel nurses and first-time travelers.
