Description
Job Opportunity: Temporary Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry (Nights)
Location: Waterloo, Iowa
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a temporary assignment on a Med Surg/Telemetry unit with night shifts. The unit has a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio and 130 beds. Nurses may float to Behavioral Health (BH), Emergency Department (ED), ICU, and some post-procedural areas.
Required Experience
- Minimum 24 months (2 years) of experience in Med Surg, Telemetry, or combined Med/Tele units.
- Experience with drips including heparin, insulin, lasix, amiodarone, diltiazem, and digoxin.
- Must be comfortable and confident reading EKG/ECG, including all telemetry-related duties such as rhythm strips and dysrhythmia interpretation.
- EPIC EMR experience required.
- First-time travelers accepted if they have at least 2 years of nursing experience in a hospital or medical center setting.
Work Schedule & Hours
- 36-40 hours per week, with overtime billable after 40 hours.
- Orientation dates available.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC.
- Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Certifications
- De-Escalation Certificate (SAMA, MAB, MOAB, CPI) – can be obtained during onboarding.
- NIH Stroke Scale certificate – can be obtained during onboarding.
Additional Information
- Must complete Basic Dysrhythmia Assessment with a passing score of 80% during onboarding.
- Professional references from the last 24 months preferred.
- Nurses may be required to float to other units as needed.
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience is not required. First-time travelers with sufficient nursing experience are accepted.
