Job Description

• Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Unit: Medical-Surgical Neuro Unit
• Patient Population: Neuro patients including stroke, seizure, dementia, brain tumor, acute change in mental status, ambulatory dysfunction
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • RN alone: 1:6
  • RN + LPN: 1:8
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
• Stroke certification required
• 2 years of nursing experience required
• First-time travelers accepted

Required Qualifications

• Active Pennsylvania RN license or compact license at time of submission
• Stroke certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience
• Ability to provide care to neuro patient population as described
• Weekend availability every other weekend

Certifications & Competencies

• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA approved
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA approved
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – Required for all RNs
• Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Must be completed within 12 months of start
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Annual requirement
• NIH Stroke Certification – Valid for 3 years
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement – Annual
• Other certifications as applicable based on unit and specialty

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Comprehensive background checks including:

  • SSN Trace
  • Counties, States, Nationwide Criminal Search
  • Sex Offender Search
  • Education Verification
• EPLS/GSA/SAM checks upon hire
• HHS/OIG checks upon hire
• Pennsylvania Department of Human Services Fingerprint Clearance within 90 days of start
• Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search within 90 days of start
• Pennsylvania PATCH and Medicheck Search Results within 30-90 days of start
• Employment application with 7 years of work history and explanations for gaps over 90 days
• Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 2 months of start
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per guidelines
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
• Immunizations or positive titers for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B (declinations not accepted)
• Drug testing: Negative 10-panel or 9-panel (without THC) within 60 days of start
• COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination with facility-specific form
• Seasonal flu vaccination required (with exemptions accepted under specific conditions)
• Respirator medical clearance required annually for respirator use starting 04/07/2025

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience, specializing in neuro care on a Medical-Surgical Neuro Unit. The position requires stroke certification, NIHSS certification, and the ability to work night shifts with every other weekend coverage.
