Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - 4N Ortho-Neuro
Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Information
- Unit: 4N Ortho - Neuro (33 beds, all private rooms)
- Patient Ratios: 1 RN to 6 patients
- Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: Elective surgeries (hips, knees, shoulders), fractures from falls, back & neck neuro-surgeries, general MedSurg
- Charge Nurse: 24/7 coverage; night charge always takes a full patient assignment
- Support Staff: Patient Care Techs (PCTs) assist with vitals, FSBS, ADLs, and Foley catheter removal; typically 2-4 PCTs depending on staffing
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow available, managed by RTs
- Telemetry: Remote monitoring available; RNs do not read strips
Schedule & Work Requirements
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM; 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with a 30-minute lunch break
- Scheduling: Permanent staff self-schedule; travelers scheduled as needed with possible block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Night shifts Fri-Sun; Day shifts Sat-Sun)
- Holiday Requirement: Based on unit needs; travelers may be required to work holidays if permanent staff coverage is insufficient
- Call/Standby: Possible call-off for low census depending on contract specifics
- Floating: Travelers float first; required to float to any MedSurg units; if floated to Tele, assigned patients within skillset
Required Qualifications
- License: Valid West Virginia RN license or compact RN license
- Certifications: BLS (AHA) required
- Experience: Must have experience with orthopedic patients and PCA pumps
- EPIC experience required
- No requirement for RNs to titrate drips; common drips include IV fluids and PCA pumps only (no heparin or other drips)
Orientation & Dress Code
- Orientation: 1 day EPIC training, 1 day floor orientation with preceptor, 3rd day independent
- Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs required; scrub jackets allowed only if royal blue; no hoodies or sweatshirts
Additional Notes
- Must include an unexpired copy of driver’s license with application
- Time-off requests should be noted during prescreen
- Prior travel experience is not specified as required for this position
