Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Urology/Nephrology)
  • Shift: 4x12 or 3x12 Night shifts (1845-0715)
  • Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Will float within scope to other Medical Surgical units as needed
  • Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
  • Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical/surgical nursing
  • First-time travelers accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years medical/surgical experience
  • No explicit prior travel experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, including experience within the last year
  • Urology experience
  • Nephrology experience
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association
  • Experience with Telemetry remote monitoring
  • Experience using Rapid Response Teams
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line blood draw experience
  • Peripheral line care and management experience
  • PICC line management experience
  • Experience starting IVs
  • Heparin administration experience
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • CPAP/BiPAP experience
  • Experience with Cerner charting system

Additional Requirements

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for: TB, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • Photo for badge required before start
  • References: 2 professional references required

Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
  • Guaranteed hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
  • Fingerprinting must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start for candidates without an IL license

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in Urology/Nephrology who are comfortable working night shifts and floating within medical surgical units. The facility uses Cerner for charting and is a Level I trauma center with Magnet recognition.
