Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown (Nights)
Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Description
- Work as a Cardiovascular Registered Nurse (CVU) using clinical judgment to diagnose and treat patient responses to actual or potential health conditions.
- Care for cardiology patients undergoing procedures such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and bi-ventricular pacemakers.
- Manage post-op care for open heart surgery patients (18-24 hours post-op).
- Provide care for patients with congestive heart failure and electrophysiology studies.
- Participate in national clinical trials through the NISUS research department.
- The CVU has received a Silver level Beacon Award and was redesigned by the AACN for optimal patient outcomes.
- The unit is recognized as a Top 50 Heart Hospital in the U.S.
- Must be willing to float to similar units as needed.
Unit Information
- Level 2 North is a 28-bed Medical Surgical Unit with a diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke care.
- Fast-paced environment focused on patient safety and quality care.
- Strong emphasis on teamwork, shared governance, and professional growth.
- Collaborative interdisciplinary care team approach.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown Unit
- Experience: Minimum 1+ year of Stepdown nursing experience (highest required years of experience)
- Proficiency in cardiac nursing care
- Comfortable with EKG interpretation
- Michigan RN license required (verification through LARA and Nursys)
- Skills checklist completed within one year of application required
- Prior travel experience is required (travel nursing experience mandatory)

- Strict 3-strike attendance policy: termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late, with exceptions for communicable disease or hospitalization with evidence.
- Full-time employees of the health system are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
- Orientation and support provided for new team members.
