Job Opportunity: Director of Emergency Medicine (Leadership)
Location: Vandalia, Illinois

Job Description
- Responsible for directing patient care activities in the Emergency Department (ED).
- Manage nursing and ancillary staff within the ED.
- Oversee operational and nursing activities.
- Consult with staff, physicians, and Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) on nursing issues and hospital policy interpretation to ensure patient needs are met.
- Provide oversight of Emergency Preparedness activities for the organization.
- Work with staffing patterns and patient throughput/triage processes.
Facility & Department Details
- Critical access hospital with a 7-bed Emergency Department.
- Average patient volume: 20 patients daily / 600 patients monthly.
- ED staffing: 20 employees (11.4 Full-Time Equivalents), typically 3 RNs or 2 RNs plus a Tech per shift.
- One on-site ED Physician through a contracted service (not employed by the hospital).
- Current EMR system: Trubridge; transitioning to Cerner on 4/1/2026.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience in leadership roles.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (local candidates will not be considered).
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
