Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology Ambulatory Care

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Details

  • Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM (5 days a week, 8-hour shifts)

  • Provider Support Available: Interpretation Services, Pharmacy, Phlebotomy, Social Services, Unit Secretary

Clinical Focus Areas

  • Psychosocial Oncology: Emotional support via individual and group counseling
  • Oncology Rehabilitation: Enhancing physical function and mobility affected by cancer/treatment
  • Fertility Preservation & Reproductive Consultation: Family planning and sexual function concerns
  • Integrative Oncology: Holistic evaluation and complementary medicine options
  • Survivorship Care: Wellness and care coordination for cancer survivors
  • Adolescent and Young Adult Services: Support for patients aged 15-39 diagnosed with cancer

Required Skills and Responsibilities

  • Assessment: Interpretation of lab results, medication reconciliation, patient health history, vital signs (BP, respirations, temperature, pulse)
  • Procedures: Dressing changes, aseptic/sterile procedure setup
  • Specimen Collection: Capillary, throat, urine (UA/clean catch), venipuncture/phlebotomy
  • Office Duties: Pharmacy calls, patient refill requests, telephone triage

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Urgent Care nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent Urgent Care experience
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience working with adolescent patients (ages 15-39)

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) - check unit-specific requirements
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter)
    • Unit-specific competency exams as applicable

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be current within 1 year of start)
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
  • Health documents: Physical exam, immunizations (Tdap, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B), TB screening, flu vaccination or declination during flu season
  • Annual compliance training including Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training and Ethics and Compliance policies
  • References: 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership

  • Fingerprinting must be completed using specific codes and processes; delays can impact start date
  • Some certifications and background checks have specific expiration and renewal requirements
  • Fully remote positions are not applicable for this role
