Description

Job Summary: RN - MedSurg/Tele Float Pool

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty: MedSurg/Tele Float Pool
Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN)


Unit Information

  • Float pool covers multiple units: primarily 6N (36 beds) & 7N (29 beds), also 4N, 5S, 6S (each 36 beds), and Critical Care (20 beds).
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios generally 1:5-6, occasionally up to 1:7 depending on acuity.
  • Units include telemetry with Phillips monitors; RNs must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
  • RN will float to various units but typically assigned a "parent unit" with basic telemetry patients.
  • No drip titration required; RNs will not titrate drips but must pass a cardiac rhythm exam.

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • CHF, cardiac catheterization, chest pain, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, orthopedic cases, oncology (permanent staff administer chemo).

Required Certifications & Qualifications

  • Certifications: BLS and ACLS required.
  • Must pass a cardiac rhythm exam.
  • Valid, unexpired driver’s license required (due to 50-mile radius rule).
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • No mention of minimum years of specialty experience; assume standard RN experience for MedSurg/Telemetry.

Work Schedule & Requirements

  • 12-hour shifts: 7 AM - 7 PM and 7 PM - 7 AM.
  • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) for both day and night shifts.
  • Holiday work included in rotation with permanent staff.
  • Charge nurse available 24/7; day charge nurse does not take patients, night charge nurse does.

  • Respiratory equipment: CPAP and BiPAP present; respiratory therapists manage these, nurses do not.
  • Orientation: 1-2 shifts with a preceptor on the unit.
  • Dress code: Royal blue scrubs for RNs.
  • Float pool RNs report to clinical coordinator before shift for unit assignment.
