Job Opportunity: CVOR Tech - Surgical Services

Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Primary Unit: CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room)
  • May float to Main OR if CVOR volume is low
  • Work Schedule:
    • 37.5 hours per week
    • 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM (3 days)
    • 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM (1 day)
  • On Call:
    • 8-hour shift on 2 weekdays (either 3-11 PM or 11 PM-7 AM)
    • 24-hour on-call on Saturdays and Sundays (one weekend per month)
  • Cases in Main OR include general surgery, laparoscopic, GYN, robotic, ortho/neuro, vascular, pediatric surgery

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 1.5 years of experience in Surgical Services
  • Must have scrub experience
  • Proficiency in heart and lung transplant cases required
  • Kidney transplant experience highly preferred
  • Experience with valve replacement, coronary artery bypass, TAVR, dissection, VATS
  • Must have Hybrid Room, Endovascular, and vascular experience, including:
    • Endovascular AAA
    • Carotid endarterectomy
    • Arteriogram, angiogram
    • Trans carotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
    • AV fistula
    • Femoral-popliteal bypass
  • Scrub provided

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) NOT required for CVOR Tech
  • Other certifications may be required depending on facility policies (confirm with program coordinator)

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers accepted
  • No prior travel experience required

Charting System

  • Epic

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Check: Criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • TB test (blood or skin) within 3 months of start or per facility protocol
    • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap as per facility requirements
    • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Respiratory Medical Clearance and Fit Test required prior to start
  • Color Blind Exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Facility-specific education and orientation acknowledgments required
  • Employment Application or Resume with 7 years of work history
  • References: 2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
  • Skills Checklist updated annually

Additional Notes

  • Block or special scheduling requests require approval at time of booking
  • Return to Office (RTO) must be included with submission
  • Must comply with facility floating policy
  • Must complete annual education sign-off and other facility-specific training
  • Vendor Medical Clearance Form required if history of positive TB
  • Must complete required competency exams (medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, etc.) within specified timeframes
  • Must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation requirements

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Surgical Services professional with specialized CVOR experience, including transplant and advanced vascular procedures, in a dynamic hospital environment.
