Description

Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Specialty: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed


Contract Length

  • 13 weeks

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in specialty
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Work Environment & Unit Details

  • Trauma Level: Critical Access (Rural Location)
  • Unit Beds: 25
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
  • EMR System: EPIC
  • Shift Length: 12 hours (0645-1915, 1845-0715)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Alternating/As scheduled (usually every other holiday)
  • Call/Standby: None
  • Floating: ER / MedSurg support required
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department specific orientation
  • Dress Code: Scrubs provided, no specific color required
  • Scheduling: Team scheduling with possible block scheduling upon request

Patient Population & Common Diagnoses

  • Dementia, dependent older adults
  • Diabetes
  • Rehab/restorative care post-acute illness
  • IV medication, fluid and blood administration
  • COVID-19 patients
  • Wounds
  • Initial care of trauma patients in the ER
  • Exacerbation of chronic illnesses
  • Geriatric population
  • General rehab post-surgery

Skills & Responsibilities

  • Understanding of dementia, stroke, skin care, and geriatric patient care
  • RNs required to titrate drips (electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, blood transfusions)
  • RNs must read and interpret cardiac monitor strips
  • No clinical involvement beyond nursing scope (e.g., no RT equipment management beyond troubleshooting CPAP)
  • Charge nurse present on each shift (team assignment, no individual assignments)
  • Nurse aides/CNAs present on each shift

Additional Notes

  • Radius rule: Candidates must be located within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.
  • Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved after submission.
