Description
Job Summary: Registered Nurse (RN) - Telemetry Unit
Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
Specialty: Telemetry (Tele - 14)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit and Patient Care Details
- Unit: PCU/Telemetry (2nd and 6th floors)
- Beds:
- 2nd Floor: 20 private rooms (planned to become Stepdown unit with higher acuity patients)
- 6th Floor: 22 beds (mix of private and semi-private), remains Telemetry acuity
- Patient Acuity: Telemetry level, with future Stepdown acuity on 2nd floor including drips like ativan & insulin
- Common Diagnoses/Patient Types:
- Elevated troponin, NSTEMI, post-STEMI recovery (post-ICU)
- Pre/post cardiac catheterization
- Peritoneal dialysis (training provided)
- Pacemakers, occasional post-surgical (hip, ortho, cardiac issues)
- Oncology patients (if unit is full)
Work Schedule and Staffing
- Shifts: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) for both day and night
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Nights: Fri/Sat; Days: Sat/Sun)
- Holidays: Travelers may be scheduled on holidays based on unit needs
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 for both day and night shifts
- Charge Nurse: May vary; sometimes a floating charge nurse covers both floors
- Nurse Aides: Typically 3 PCTs per floor when fully staffed; sometimes only 1 per floor
- Floating: Rare, but may float to ICU overflow or Ortho/MedSurg
Clinical and Technical Information
- EMR System: EPIC
- Telemetry Monitors: Phillips Cardiac Monitors with central monitoring station
- Cardiac Strip Monitoring: Nurses review and document strips every 4 hours
- Drips Allowed: Cardizem, Amiodarone, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Heparin, Integrilin (per protocol), Nitro (set rate only)
- Ventilator Support: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow managed by Respiratory Therapy (RT)
- Respiratory Therapy: RT available 24/7 in-house
- Pharmacy: In-house 24/7, Omnicell on unit during the day
- Hospitalist: In-house 24/7
- IV Team: None
Required Certifications and Qualifications
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
- Experience:
- No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are accepted
- Orientation: 1-2 days depending on experience
Additional Information
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Fully vaccinated required (2 Moderna/Pfizer or 1 J&J dose) or approved medical/religious exemption
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs, white or navy undershirt, natural hair color, tattoos must be covered
- Submission Notes: Candidates must have a valid driver's license with an address outside 50 miles from the facility
- Background checks: Any background issues must be disclosed at submission
This position offers opportunities for precepting and charge nurse roles. Scheduling requests are managed via Kronos with approvals required at least 2 weeks in advance. Block scheduling may be available if included in the contract.
