Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Little Falls, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ER Registered Nurse for a Level IV trauma and stroke-ready emergency department. The unit treats patients across the lifespan from newborn to geriatric with a variety of conditions including respiratory, cardiac, trauma, and stroke cases.


Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license in Minnesota
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • TNCC, ENPC, or PALS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of Critical Access Emergency Department experience preferred (highest required years of experience)
  • Competent triage skills required
  • Strong practical skills, ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Competency in de-escalation skills (no in-house security)

Work Environment & Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio varies; 1:3 common depending on acuity
  • 10-bed ER with 2 trauma bays
  • Separate triage room and locked seclusion room available
  • No fast track area
  • Average 25-30 patients treated per day
  • Common drips: norepinephrine, nitroglycerin, heparin, amiodarone, propofol
  • 24/7 provider coverage (MD, DO, or PA) with one provider on shift
  • No charge nurse on shift
  • CNA/Tech support available afternoons and evenings (1400-2230)
  • Respiratory Therapist available daytime and on-call at night; RNs must be able to initiate respiratory treatments with RT assistance
  • RNs required to read their own cardiac monitor strips (Phillips monitors)
  • No Tele/Monitor Techs in ER
  • No X-Ray or CT in ER; RN assists with transport and attends CT for stroke activations
  • Phlebotomy performed by both RNs and dedicated phlebotomists
  • 12-hour shifts (7am-7pm and 7pm-7am), rotating days and nights with 6-week schedule blocks
  • Every other weekend and holiday required
  • No call, standby, or floating requirements
  • Professional dress code, no specific scrub color
  • Orientation lasts until competency achieved, up to 4 shifts

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI or Dignity
  • Must complete required Return to Office (RTO) upfront; no additional RTO approved after submission

This position is ideal for ER nurses with solid critical access ED experience who are comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment with a diverse patient population.
